FLASH-FICTION COLLECTIONS

1 Month, 1 Challenge, 119 Prompts, 33 Stories, 2 Poems

This was a challenge.

Every year, during the month of November, many writers commit to writing 50,000 words of a novel, as I have sometimes done in the past. However, in 2021, I decided I was going to write a short story every day instead, but not only that. For inspiration, I would use word-of-the-day prompts from four dictionary websites to inspire me. That meant each day's story could not be prepared for in advance, because, unfortunately, I don't have a time machine.

This book is the end result of that challenge. Of course, it is a time machine. It will show you exactly how my brain was working on 30 different days.

Most of the stories fall within the fantasy and science-fiction genres. Monsters, aliens and alien monsters abound, and there's definitely a dystopian feel to a few of them. Plus, if you like a short story with a twist, you'll get a few of those, too.

Get your copy today and expect the unexpected. I did.

Crescendo cover

Crescendo

Crescendo is a collection of ten very short stories encompassing romance, horror, science fiction and the just plain weird.

What would life be like if all your emotions were played as music? What lurks in the spaces between the leaves? And what would it be like to wait for a time traveller from the past to arrive at the specified time? These are just some of the questions posed by the stories in this book.

The story Crescendo was the winner of Round Two of the 2010 Slingink Scribbling Slam and Negative Effect won the 2010 Micro Horror competition.

Grandma's Eyes cover

Grandma's Eyes

Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you still believed the things that you thought to be true when you were a child? Or what kind of world it would be if those things were actually true?

What would life be like if you couldn't see people who had their eyes closed? How would you cope with going to the toilet if there really was a monster down there just waiting for the right moment to grab you? And what if all those pictures on the wall were actually watching your every move?

This collection of thirty very short stories takes a selection of childhood beliefs and attempts to answer those questions. The results may be comic or sad, have an element of horror in them or be out of this world, but they certainly won't be what we consider normal.

Take a walk through your childhood beliefs - you never know what you might find.
